Senior Systems Engineer -

Wireless Advocates operates retail kiosks and online sales activities for our retail partners: Costco Wholesale, Army & Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES), Marine Corps Exchange (MCX), and Navy Exchange (NEX).

The Senior Systems Engineer develops and maintains the design and integrity of Wireless Advocates? and Car Toys? nationwide retail systems; including customer-facing, hosted, and cloud environments. This role provides expertise in systems engineering and operations to a diverse group of business stakeholders, engineers and technologists. The Senior Systems Engineer designs, plans, and implements projects, and maintains and oversees all Enterprise technology. Technologies include but are not limited to Linux, Windows, Open Source, Microsoft Cloud, and other hosted systems. As a key member of the Infrastructure Team, the Senior Systems Engineer works independently and as part of a team to develop project and infrastructure roadmaps; plan and implement project timelines; establish test plans; recommend and implement new technologies using a best of bread approach; and works with other discipline Senior Engineers or similar roles to define integrated solutions, considering overall costs, quality, maintainability and services. Determination, flexibility, and creativity are required in order to succeed in this role.

  • Provide technical services and support for the following areas:
  • Internal systems, cloud and network infrastructure
  • Microsoft related technologies: Windows Server, Exchange, SQL, SharePoint
  • Virtualization technologies: VMware, and Microsoft
  • Remote access solution support: VPN, Terminal Services
  • Remote monitoring and management of system alerts and notifications
  • Design and implement systems and business solutions
  • Provide Tier 3 support and be an integral member of complex problem resolution
  • Implement monitoring, redundant architectures and other approaches for early detection of problems and high-resiliency services, prioritized and driven by the business needs
  • Perform capacity management and anticipate hardware and software needs for planning and budgeting via active systems monitoring
  • Develop, document, and train on Enterprise Systems Policies, Standards, and Procedures
  • Perform capacity management and anticipate hardware and software needs for planning and budgeting via active network monitoring
  • Work with Business Partners and IT Teams to engineer projects, and identify new products and solutions
  • Set standards and document maintenance for all IT systems infrastructure
  • Implement and control systems security
  • Coordinate special projects as assigned
  • Maintain a leading-edge knowledge base

  • Veam Backup and Replication
  • Active Directory, Azure AD, DNS, DHCP, File Services, NPS, RDS, IIS, Group Policy, SFTP and FTP
  • Plus, but not required: Teams, Dynamics365, MDM, MAM
  • Understanding of Microsoft software architectures and design philosophies
  • PowerShell scripting skills and intense desire to automate tedious tasks. Experience with automation tools such as Chef, Puppet or Ansible a plus
  • Proficiency in at least one cross platform scripting language such as python, bash or ruby
  • Understanding of security best practices
  • Experience with enterprise storage systems and best practices in business continuity and high availability
  • Experience with architecting and deploying enterprise virtualization technologies and engagement with current state of the art in software defined networking and cloud computing. Experience with VMWare and Azure, highly desirable
  • Familiarity with Linux architectures in an enterprise environment.
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills including the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, jargon free language
  • Minimum 5 years of extensive technical engagement in complex Windows Server, Lync, Exchange, SQL Server and/or Dynamics AX environments
  • Technical certifications highly desirable
  • Effective cross-group collaboration
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively and reactively respond to, analyze, and resolve critical network and systems impacts
  • Demonstrated ability to make good decisions based on analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment
  • Demonstrated experience on how to provision infrastructure in Azure as well as AWS.
  • Solid understanding of cloud computing service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)Desired:
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills
  • Strong, influential written and verbal communication skills, with technical writing experience
  • Top-notch analytical skills; methodical and detail-oriented planner and problem-solver; ability to eliminate variables, prioritize requirements, identify root causes and present objective, organized information to customers, internal and external partners
