Alchemy Communications, Inc., a leader in providing complete data center services, is looking for a bright and intelligent individual to become a member of our Network Operation Center team. We have openings in downtown Los Angeles.

LINUX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

Experience working on a computer help desk supporting Linux, including use of problem logging and tracking systems, troubleshooting problems and resolving them, escalating problems to senior technical staff.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively as a member of a computing support team. Good customer communication skills, experience working with help desk staff, writing e-mail responses, and providing basic written how-to or web page help information. Ability to follow instructions.

Expertise with Linux system administration including account creations and deletions, thorough understanding of Linux system commands, performing backups and restores from tape, use of Linux filesystems and NFS, writing shell scripts.

Experience with Solaris, RedHat, and BSD UNIX based systems. Experience troubleshooting hardware and software, including installing patches and operating system updates.

Expertise with networking in a Linux environment such as TCP/IP, subnets, DNS record management, DHCP setup, SSH2, etc. Thorough understanding of wired ethernet and troubleshooting network connectivity problems.

Expertise with common services and applications such as POP, SMTP, SNMP, DNS, Apache, Sendmail, MySQL, PHP, etc.

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or information systems/MIS or equivalent experience required.

NOC TECHNICIAN
Experience working on a computer help desk or in a NOC environment including using ticketing systems, troubleshooting basic networking, Linux and Windows problems, escalating problems to senior technical staff.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively as a member of support team. Good customer communication skills, experience working with help desk staff, writing e-mail responses. Ability to follow instructions.
Some experience with basic Linux/UNIX, VMWare and Windows system. Experience troubleshooting hardware and software, including installing patches and operating system. Ability to run Cat5/6 cable and lifting 50lbs.


Sun, Red Hat, or other certifications a plus.
